Microsoft Surface Book 3 Complete Walkthrough: A Lot More Powerful

The new Microsoft Surface Book 3 was just announced and since Microsoft let me borrow one I figured I’d do a complete walkthrough on it. In this video, we’ll go through all the specs as well as multiple battery tests and charging tests, gaming benchmarks, and even see if it can edit my 6K RAW footage. Let’s see how it did.

  1. Hi, thanks for a great review. I think you are the first one who talks about the wobbling hinge/screen. I was wondering if you know how inconvenient the wobbling is if i am on a public transport, e.g. a Bus or a Subway/Metro. As a student, I spend a significant time reading on the bus and train, as well as use my keyboard to type. i have been using a surface go 1 and it was ok. what do you think about the surfacebook 3 13.5 that does not have a kick stand at the back of the monitor? Appreciate your opinion.

  2. liked for cleaning the logo with a microfiber cloth. unliked after seeing it was still smudged. tisktisk

  3. Surface book 3 USB-A port glitching turning on and off by itself repeatedly[BOOK3]

AFTER A RECENT UPDATE, USB-A PORTS KEEPS TURNING ON AND SHUTTING OFF. SO MY WIRED MOUSE AND KEYBOARD TURNS ON AND OFF IN A SECOND INTERVAL. It worked perfectly fine before I restarted to computer. Please help me on this.

BLUETOOTH MOUSE AND BLUETOOTH KEYBOARD WORKS FINE

  4. What I'm most interested in is how the GTX 1660 Ti compares to the RTX 3000 if I'm wanting to use programs like 3ds Max, Maya, and ZBrush? (I've read that ZBrush only uses the CPU). How about programs like Google Sketchup? How about Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator?

  5. Microsoft's stated reason for not including Thunderbolt 3 is that they have discovered a security exploit that would allow an externally attached device to bypass the TPM security and be able to directly read certain parts of the computer's L1/L2 cache memory potentially exposing sensitive information like passwords. While such an attack is rare and requires physical access to the device, it does pose a security and privacy issue. (think crazy ex-spouse breaking into a computer for dirt in a divorce).

  6. Very useful video thanks, I really enjoy using the SurfaceBook 2, it’s been my daily machine for the past couple of years. I believe Microsoft’s reason for not including Thunderbolt is due to security concerns over the way it accesses RAM, and given recent security problems with Intel chips, that’s probably a smart move.

  7. The value proposition is absolute trash in comparison to what the Surface Book 2 offered back then. Almost nothing has changed in the 3

  8. I have the surface book 2 15. Notable issues which a lot of SB2 users have had in common:

-GPU disconnecting / detection issues (Could happen with previous updates, but they released an irreversible firmware update around May 2019 along with Windows 10 version 1903 which took out my dGPU. It took them around 5 months to "fix" it, October 2019, but by this time, my gpu was already damaged and out of warranty). Basically microsoft updates killed their own flagship device

-Wifi was slow, inconsistent and also kept disconnecting, hopefully that got fixed this time

-The screen glass has a chance of breaking randomly if you put enough pressure on the lid (maybe when you close it or it's squeezed in your bag) – because all the force is concentrated at the edge of the screen (for that hinge design) and some users have said it's because of the sharp corners at the touch pad / lid notch

-No thunderbolt port – whatever. How about just letting people have TB and let them take the 'risks'

-Limited upgrade / repair options – It is really hard to take apart, you can only replace the SSD. Replacing your thermal paste is even harder
And for SB3 they decided to use the same design lol

  9. *Microsoft Logo (they ditched the Windows Logo on Surface devices with the SP4 in favor for the Microsoft logo)
